"Flin Flon Flim Flam" documentary

Executive Director and investigative journalist, John Dougherty, reveals Hudbay's notorious history of pollution, human rights abuses and deceptions in Canada, Guatemala, Peru, and Arizona.

Check out the 2016 documentary film Flin Flon Flim Flam by John Dougherty.

The film exposes Hudbay's history of environmental disasters, including lead poisoning of children in Flin Flon, Manitoba, and it highlights violence against indigenous communities protesting Hudbay mining operations. After the film was released, the head of Hudbay security in Guatemala pled guilty to murdering an indigenous leader. Hudbay's past actions provide crucial context to understand the company's constantly changing plan to construct the third largest open-pit copper mine in the United States in the Santa Rita Mountains southeast of Tucson.

In 2017, Mr. Dougherty was detained by the Peruvian National Police after showing the film in remote communities in the Andes. After being held for four hours, Mr. Dougherty was released and immediately left the country. Peruvian courts later dismissed the government's immigration violation charges.
